Q3. What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
Audience Feedback Analysis – Magazine Advert First Draft
1) What do you think of our music poster?
All respondents stated that our poster was eye-catching. This represents to us as a group that the sizing of the typography, and the image used is successful in engaging an audience. Therefore, for our final edit, we will ensure that the same typography sizing and imagery is used.
2) Does our music poster adhere to the conventions of an indie pop music poster?
All four respondents recognised that we have aimed to incorporate as many conventions of an indie pop poster as possible, making it apparent that we should include the same things into our final edit.
3) If yes, what conventions are used?
One respondent mentioned that the layout of the music poster is conventional. This signifies that the same layout should be carried forward into our final edit, as it is evidently conventional of the indie pop genre. Another respondent stated that the denotation of the name and image of the artist is what makes our poster conventional, therefore we will include the same thing in our final draft. Another individual mentioned that the simplicity of our first draft is what makes it conventional of the indie pop genre, making it clear that we should aim to create simplicity in our final draft also. Finally, the last respondent stated that the colours and the smoke bomb denoted adheres to the indie pop genre.
4) What other conventions do you think could be included?
While one respondent said that all key conventions have been covered, the rest pointed out that in order to incorporate these conventions even further, we could include some tour dates and release dates. These will appear effective in our final draft as it is evident that that’s what our target audience wishes to see, while making our advert appear more realistic.
5) Has Photoshop been used effectively in the production of our music poster?
Two respondents stated that Photoshop has been used effectively in our advert, and that they are able to visualise it on billboards. This obtained information is effective as this was one of our intentions whilst producing the advert – that it appeared realistic. However, the other three respondents mentioned that some other aspects of Photoshop could be included. Therefore, as a group we will explore the application more in order to find features that we believe will further improve our poster. We believe that by incorporating black and white into the image somewhere will improve our advert, as it will emphasise the colour of the smoke bomb, which we believe makes our poster eye-catching and unique.
6) Overall, what could we do to improve our music poster?
Two respondents pointed out that the layers of our magazine advert could be layered more effectively, and by doing so we could ombré the black frame into the photo. In our final draft, we will merge the two layers together in a way that ensures the poster doesn’t appear too blocky. Another respondent stated that Photoshop could be used more effectively to improve our poster. As previously mentioned, we will aim to incorporate more features in order to do so. Finally, another respondent said that layout of the advert could be altered so it doesn’t look too similar to a film poster. For our final edit, we will test out which area of the poster each feature (name of the band, album, etc.) will appear most effectively.

Q1. In what ways does your product use, develop or challenge forms of conventions of real media products?
As a group project we were assigned several tasks to complete to create promotional material for an album release regarding our chosen artist. These tasks consisted of a music video and two ancillary tasks such as a digipak and a magazine advert. The ancillary tasks facilitated further promotion for the music video and complimented it very well. The ancillaries provided this idea of a promotion package which enables the media products itself to prosper and equip to other media products. Each media text offers a purpose to our intended audience, they all help to address the bands genre and style as well as reaching out to our demographic. The music video is exhibited on YouTube, the video sharing website that accumulates videos over time uploaded by active YouTube users. Due to YouTube being expressed as highly popular in modern society, it’s is extremely beneficial for the music video to succeed as it will evidently be discovered and therefore viewed. Uploading our music video on YouTube has supported the media product by storing it there forever for our audience to stumble upon, especially indie fans.
